Five Keys to Victory in Any Battle – #2 – Greatness of God

If God is both good and great, we’re in good hands! Last time we wrote about enjoying the Goodness of God. This time in our five part series on victory, we focus on embracing His incredible greatness to us. And He controls and has conquered everything that comes against us – even our ultimate enemy. Let’s Embrace The Greatness of God in His:

1) Creation of All Things For Us

Lift up your eyes on high and see Who has created these stars … He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, Not one of them is missing. – Isaiah 40:26

God wants us to “see” Him when we see His works in Creation! We can see 6000 stars from the earth with the naked eye. Yet in the “observable” universe, using spaceship telescopes, astronomers estimate there are about 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 more stars, that’s a billion trillion stars. Beyond that, we don’t know how many more there are because we can’t see beyond a certain point in the universe nor into the black holes! Yet God sees them all. Isaiah tells us He gave each star a name, and none are missing! What can anyone say about all of this?!

Yet, Zephaniah 3:17 says your amazing Creator “delights over you with shouts of joy!” Wow, soak that up for a minute. His greatness is not only displayed for your pleasure, He derives great pleasure from you! I hope that makes you smile!

2) Sovereignty Over All Things Around US

Job said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God. – Job 1:21-22

Behind the scenes in the Book of Job, we see God control the extent and duration of a satanically-inspired test of Job’s loyalty to God. God’s purpose was to demonstrate a point He already knew, His love can sustain a person through anything! Job had some tantrums along the way, but He consistently got the point. Though God could change anything about his circumstances at any time, He was allowing him to go through this ordeal for a “higher purpose” to trust Him no matter what. When I began to see a higher purpose in my brutal struggle against Stage IV metastatic melanoma, it enabled me to surrender – not to the cancer, but to God. I had my tantrums as well, but I sought to embrace the path He allowed. He miraculously healed me, and some folks He takes home to Himself. These Sovereign choices are mysterious, but very much a part of His Higher Purposes. Rick Warren makes earthly sense of those things we don’t quite understand about God’s choices:

“If you give it to God, He transforms your test into a testimony, your mess into a message, and your misery into a ministry.”

3) Power Over All Things Against Us

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know … the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places. – Ephesians 1:18a, 19-20

What greater enemy does the human race have than death? We’re currently living under the shadow of a virus that threatens mass deaths. In addition, many of our readers are also in the midst of a life-threatening cancer battle right now. Some can’t even get their cancer treatments because of restrictions. Yet God has provided ultimate hope over the fear of death – through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead! He promises that those who believe in Jesus as Savior will “never die”! This is the message of Easter, because of Jesus’ sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sin, we don’t have to fear death or anything life throws at us! If we’re not living in constant fear of the worst, we can enjoy this life to the full! Do you see all that Paul is saying in this Ephesians passage? God the Father displays and is providing His resurrection power in us on a daily basis! See what He means?

Lord, help us trust You and Your Greatness no matter what. We declare our freedom you’ve won for us over fear, self-pity, despair and the enemies’ oppression in Jesus’ Mighty Name!
