The Key to Experiencing God’s Goodness – ALL the Time

Gods Goodness - He delights in you! Zephaniah 3:17

There is a saying, “God is good all the time.” So why don’t we feel it more often? I remember struggling with God’s goodness during my Stage IV metastatic melanoma cancer battle, especially after being told in 2003, “You have days to live.” My healing took some time and was difficult, so in the “mean time” I had to learn how to decouple God’s goodness from my rough circumstances.

I wasn’t sensing His goodness because I was yearning for His provisions more than His Person. I latched on to externals for fulfillment, my hobbies, my job, and certainly my physical comfort. Sure, He gives these things and abundantly, but above all He wanted me to develop internal contentment – in Him.

My highest motivation needed to become delight in Him. No more bargaining, begging, tantrums. (More here on how to begin a relationship with God). Psalm 37:4 inspires us to this highest level, “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” Perhaps the highest desire of our hearts is Him! So how do we delight in Him?

Delighting in Him is easy when we first soak up His great delight in us! Check out this verse in Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”

Delighting in Him is easy when we first soak up His great delight in us!

So I encourage you to stop and feel this truth – all of the time! He already greatly delights in you. Right now. Unconditionally. Before you lift another finger for Him. So I invite you to personalize this verse by saying it out loud and inserting YOUR name after each “me”, like this:

Thank You, Lord, my God:

  • … that you are with me, (say your full name here).
  • … that You are the Mighty Warrior who saves me, (say your full name here).
  • … that You take great delight in me, (say your full name here).
  • … that in Your love You will no longer rebuke me, (say your full name here).
  • … that You rejoice with singing over me, (say your full name here).
