C’mon, does God really work all things to the good – even cancer battles? He says He does. In Romans 8:28: “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Note that when we love Him and live for His purposes, rough trials which have the potential to be nightmares can be “good.”

So how does God work out the harshness of many cancer battles for the good? Here are three ways:

1) We get to spread God’s amazing comfort to others, like Paul.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

He gives us great comfort so we can spread it to many! Passing it on.

2) We glorify Him by our attitudes, like Joseph.

Joseph’s jealous brothers threw him into a well and left him for dead! Realizing they could profit, they sold him into slavery. In the end, Joseph said to his brothers, “What you meant for evil, God meant for good” (Genesis 50:20).

God flips the enemies’ schemes against us and finds a way to bless us as well as others. When we see God in everything, we’ll find the good in everything.

3) We can point fearful people to the Lord, like Paul!

“For we know that if our earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made by hands, eternal in the heavens” (2 Corinthians 5:1).

Paul had an “eternal perspective” and he inspired others to have the same freeing focus. He looked death square in the eye and welcomed it, and so can we! How did Paul have such confidence of where he would go when he died? His assurance was from God’s promises. You can dive into this for yourself here. Like Paul, I’ve made it my life’s mission to leverage my trials and Stage IV cancer battle to lifting up Him and His goodness for this life and the next!

Lord, we can’t respond like this in our own abilities, so please grant us Your supernatural power and insight to look beyond our troubles to Your ultimate purposes!
